The sky isn’t the limit for Samantha (Sam) Budzyn, Director of Operations for Nexsys Technologies. It’s more like phase one of a stellar career.
But that’s what you’d expect from a rising star – specifically a 2020 HW Rising Star!
The Rising Star award is presented annually by HousingWire Magazine to recognize industry professionals who have become leaders in the real estate field and have had “an outsized impact on the industry and their businesses.” Sam earned this prestigious award for the work she’s done for both Nexsys and the FinTech industry.
“I’m beyond honored to be recognized with this award,” Sam said. “I’m grateful to my leaders for allowing me the opportunity to be so involved with this. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the work I’ve done with my teammates and industry partners; and I look forward to continuing to see the adoption of digital closings and the effect they make on our lives.”
“Sam worked for years to pave the way for digital mortgage closings, and she’s had an incredible impact,” said Mike Lyon, Executive Vice President of Nexsys. “She’s petitioned and testified for changes to existing laws, educated lawmakers and secretaries of state, provided feedback and contributed to the entire industry.
“Now she focuses all that energy into Nexsys products and processes. She works with clients to help them understand digital closings and use our platform to bring them into this brave new electronic world. Then, she uses feedback from the clients to help us continually improve our products. For all she’s done and continues to do – both for Nexsys and for the industry – she’s more than a rising star. She’s a supernova.”
Sam joined Nexsys in 2019 after serving as the Director of Special Projects for Amrock, a nationwide title insurance and closing services provider. She co-chairs a data privacy task force for the American Land Title Association (ALTA), and she’s always working to improve the process and customer experience for Nexsys using Lean Six Sigma methodologies. She graduated with honors from Michigan State University’s Supply Chain Management program (one of the top in the nation), and she was recently admitted into an MBA program at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
Sam frequently receives invitations to speak at industry conferences as a subject matter expert. She’s addressed audiences at the California Mortgage Bankers Association (CMBA) conferences, various ALTA events and Property Records Industry Association (PRIA). But she enjoys stepping away from the podium for work on key committees for the Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization (MISMO) Remote Online Notarization group and ALTA – where she co-chairs a committee on data privacy and is also a co-chair for the digital closings subcommittee. She continues to drive change in the mortgage and title industries and always brings awareness of new topics and trends.
So, what does this industry maven do when she’s not technically working? (We say “technically” because we know her brain is never more than three thoughts away from the mortgage world.) Sam is a Michigan Make-A-Wish® volunteer, doing what she can to help grant wishes that change the lives of children with critical illnesses. She also loves to travel with her husband and explore anything from active volcanoes to rainforests to beaches. But when she’s home, you’ll most likely find her hanging out with her furbabies and husband or experimenting with a new recipe.
Congratulations, Sam, and thanks for sharing your energy with us. You shine brighter every day!
